Poya
(Full Moon) Day Feast
Sri Lanka, being a Buddist
country, Poya Day is a special religious observance day for
the Buddist. So since it is a holiday, we have a Poya Day
Feast in the temple every month and over 200 devotees
participate in the Pooja and the Full Lunch Prasadam. The
Lunch consists of the same items that are served on The
Sunday Feast.
Bhaktivedanta Children's Home - Gokulam
At Gokulam,
there are 115 children. They eat three full meals daily. The
meals are balanced and nutritious, consisting of rice, dhal,
vegetables, fruits, yoghurt, and fresh milk. The meals are
completely vegetarian, and the dairy products come from the
protected cows kept on the premises. Our kitchen facilities
are kept immaculately clean at all times and cooks follow
strict hygienic and nutritional guidelines.

Food For
Life
Food for life is the world's
largest Vegetarian food relief program. It was started by
Srila Prabhupada (Founder
of ISKCON) in 1974.
In Sri Lanka, we have been
distributing free prasadam to the 'home for aged', 'leprosy
home' etc since the time we started the temple in 1976.
This program was continuing
from the temple on every Sundays and full moon days, where
hundreds of poor and needy also come for the midday meals to
the temple.
After the Tsunami on December
26th, 2004, we started distributing cooked meals to the
affected people in the eastern coastal area, Trincomalee.
For them, we have distributed
1000s of plates of food. Seeing our effort in Sri Lanka,
Food for life Global
volunteers came here and the distribution expanded to
Moratuwa, Galle, Matara, Pt. Pedro, Batticaloa (eastern
Province) and Ampara Dst.
Volunteers came from all over
the world such as from, USA, Poland, UK, Russia, Ireland,
South Africa, Hungary etc and helped distribute food during
the Tsunami time.
An estimated number of 250,000
plates of vegetarian food were distributed to the affected
people.
This service is to continue as
the midday meal program for the Tsunami affected school in
Northern Province in Pt. Pedro.
Mid-day
School Program
Since the 2004 Tsunami, We
have been distributing midday meals for the school children
in the Tsunami affected areas in the Northern Province in
Sri Lanka namely Pt. Pedro.
Daily, over 1000 children in
more than 3 schools were provided with lunch consisting of
rice, dal and vegetables.
Since the sudden outbreak of
violence in the north, that service has been halted for the
moment due to transportation and security problems.
